New York Electronic Art Festival Launches Month-Long Celebration of Cutting-Edge Electronic art

New York, August 17, 2009 – Harvestworks Digital Media Arts Center announces the 2009 New York Electronic Art Festival, a month-long series of concerts, workshops, and exhibitions centered on the cutting-edge work being done at the intersection of art and technology. The festival will take place from September 29 - October 28, 2009 and will feature the highest quality work in the evolving field of art and technology. Presentations will include New York City resident artists as well as the most exciting work from around the globe.

September 29 – October 24 (Tues. – Sat. Noon-4) @ World Financial Center Courtyard Gallery. Rate of Change - time and space in electronic art, an exhibition featuring “Hand-drawn Spaces” by Merce Cunningham, Paul Kaiser and Shelley Eshkar, and other works by Céleste Bousier-Mougenot, Hisao Ihara, Julia Heyward, Eunjung Hwang, Jessica Ann Peavy, Christine Sugrue and CCRT, a collaboration between LoVid and Douglas Repetto. October 16 – 18 @ Roulette Improvisation and New Media featuring performing artists Shadow Puppies (Nick Didkovsky, Hans Tammen, Kurt Ralske), Nic Collins vs Nick Collins, Ikue Mori & the League of Electronic Musical Urban Robots, Miya Masaoka, Peter Blasser, David Galbraith, Laeatitia Sonami, Lucky Dragons, Joker Nies, Triple Point, Andrew Deutsch & Peer Bode, Moritz Wettstein.

October 26 @ NYU Loewe Theatre will continue the series with a special performance by Atau Tanaka & Adam Parkinson and George Lewis & Marina Rosenfeld.

ABOUT NYEAF: The New York Electronic Art Festival was created to provide a responsive public context for the appreciation of cutting-edge electronic artwork through concerts, panels, workshops, and exhibitions of the highest quality across the arts and technology spectrum. Attendees will get an overview of how technology is being used in various artistic disciplines, and have the opportunity to take part in a discussion about how these technologies will continue to shape contemporary art practice. This year’s festival will be a showcase of exciting interdisciplinary work and serve as a catalyst for discussions and collaborations between artists, technology, and the public.


The NYEAF will plug into a national and international network of electronic art festivals, bringing significant contemporary art and music to the city. NYEAF is produced by Harvestworks, an international digital media arts center with 30 years of experience helping artists to get ”inside the electronics” and to develop a hands-on, experimental and explorative approach to making art with technology.
